The short version
- Your files never leave your Mac. Search, photo search, text reading, Smart Rename and duplicate checks all run on your Mac.
- Seek has no account, no analytics and no tracking.
- When you buy Seek, our payment provider handles your payment. We only receive what we need to send your license and help you.
- We never sell your data.
This policy explains what information the Seek Mac app (“Seek”, “the app”) and our website, useseek.app, collect, why, and what you can do about it. Seek is made by Meet Patel (“we”, “us”).
1. Your files
Seek is a file manager, so it reads the files and folders you give it access to. Everything it does with them happens on your Mac:
- Search and text reading. Seek reads the text inside your documents, PDFs and images so you can search for it. The search index is stored on your Mac.
- Photo search. Seek uses an image model that runs on your Mac to understand what your photos show. The results are stored on your Mac.
- Smart Rename and smarter search. These use Apple Intelligence, which runs on your Mac. Apple's own privacy terms apply to Apple Intelligence.
- Duplicates and Cleanup. Seek compares file contents and sizes on your Mac.
The indexes and settings Seek creates are kept in Seek's folder in your Mac's Library (Application Support). We cannot see them. Deleting Seek and that folder removes them.
Seek never uploads your files, their names, their contents or anything learned from them.
2. When the app goes online
Seek works offline. It only connects to the internet for these things:
- Photo-search model download. The first time you set up photo search, Seek downloads its image model once. This request does not include anything about your files.
- Website icons. To show icons in Downloaded From, Seek may ask a website (for example figma.com) for its icon. Only the site's address is requested. Like any web request, that website can see your IP address.
- License activation. When you activate Seek, your license key and a random identifier for your Mac are sent to our licensing provider to check the license and count activations. Seek may check in again from time to time.
- Update checks. Seek may check for new versions, which sends the app version and your macOS version.
Seek does not include analytics, advertising or tracking code.
3. Buying Seek
Purchases are processed by Dodo Payments, which acts as the merchant of record. Dodo Payments collects your payment details, name, email address, billing country and tax information under its own privacy policy. We never see or store your card details.
We receive your name, email address, what you bought and when, so we can send your license key, provide support and handle refunds.
Refund requests. When you ask for a refund, we ask for proof: your order number or receipt, your purchase email and a reason. For the “post about it, get 100% back” offer, we also ask for the link to your public post and proof that the account is yours, such as a screenshot. We use this proof only to check and process your refund, and we delete screenshots once the refund is settled. Purchase records are kept as described in section 7.
4. This website
- The website has no analytics or tracking cookies.
- Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (such as IP address, browser and pages requested) for security and reliability.
- The site loads fonts from Google Fonts, so Google receives your IP address when you visit.
5. Emails
If you email us, we keep the conversation so we can help you. We only email you about your purchase, your license or your support request. We do not send marketing emails unless you ask for them.
6. Sharing
We do not sell or rent your information. We share it only with the services listed above (payments, licensing, hosting) so they can do their job, or when the law requires it.
7. How long we keep it
Purchase records are kept as long as the law requires for tax and accounting. Support emails are kept while they are useful for helping you, then deleted. Data on your Mac stays there until you delete it.
8. Your choices and rights
You can ask us to see, correct or delete the information we hold about you, or ask questions about this policy, by emailing us. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights. For example, California residents have rights under the CCPA, including the right to know, delete and correct personal information, and EU and UK residents have rights under the GDPR. We do not sell or share personal information for advertising.
9. Children
Seek is not aimed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
10. Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top. For important changes, we will let customers know by email.
